Wildlife and Travel Photography

Move from an enthusiastic amateur photographer to an aspiring professional. Learn how to make money from photography whilst experiencing incredible photographic platforms in Africa

Over the past six years we have adapted and ‘honed’ this popular course to provide aspiring photographers with the opportunity ‘ break into and make it’ the competitive world of photography. Over the course of a month, students will accompany Africa Media’s photographers on expeditions throughout the Garden Route in the Southern Cape of South Africa. Over and above the training on how to make money in this field, students will also receive expert guidance on how to produce artistic and breathtaking photographs of  Africa. On occasion students may also have the opportunity to participate in professional shoots for our clients, primarily to produce marketing material used in advertising and social media campaigns.amateur to a professional level.

By popular demand, we have included tutorials and practical training on such aspects of photography as setting up your own business; how to make enough money to start and keep going; how to write a basic business plan to get you through the first two years ( the hardest years of the life of any business !) and most importantly how to market yourself and build your income streams in the field you love.   Practical training is key and so we don’t just talk “at” you. Our staff will guide you practically, step by step in the process. We will assist you to open the necessary profiles in the media industry to get you off to a flying start. This training, coupled with the practical experience of shooting within various wildlife and travel platforms, will enhance your career prospects, and some benefit from credits within their schools or colleges.

In addition to terrestrial shoots, some underwater shoots are covered. If you are more interested in underwater photography itself then take a look at our uw photo program .Some of the underwater shoots covered on the land based course are cage diving with white sharks, pool sessions with models or kids and optional diving with seals.  From January 2017 the course cost incl. of accommodation; food; transfers; all trips and training, is $2650. The course is open to beginners or those with experience. We take only 14 students per month and we are open for training from 1 May to end October annually, but in 2017 we will also be open for March and April. If you would like to join the Africa Media team on this program, please email us.
