Underwater Videography

Underwater videography offers keen SCUBA divers the opportunity to document the wonders of the underwater world. Our one month program allows students the time, resources and expert guidance required to master the art of underwater videography to a professional standard.

Acquire the knowledge and practical skills required to master the art of underwater videography while exploring the incredible diversity of the stunning coral reefs of the warm Indian Ocean. The course uses dSLR cameras in Sea&Sea housings; Panasonic video cameras and GoPros together with exceptional LED lighting and accessories.

Developed by National Geo and BBC talent Ryan Johnson and underwater camerawoman Fiona Ayerst, this course will empower students to see and explore the underwater realm in a totally new and intimate manner.

Apart from learning solid skills, you will also focus on becoming part of the marine world; using specialised breathing techniques and capitalising on the natural curiosity of the marine inhabitants. Fiona’s team will teach you how to capture the perfectly structured and composed film.

scuba diving isn’t just a sport– it’s a lifestyle

I’ve realized that every time I travel to an unfamiliar location, my perspective of the world warps and changes.  Africa, the Underwater Photography Internship led by Fiona Ayerst with the help of Shalini Tewari and Martin Totland, all of the people I’ve encountered on this internship, and just scuba diving in general has changed every previous plan I had lined up in my life. I soon began to realize that scuba diving isn’t just a sport– it’s a lifestyle. Follow my Blog and see my new life!

Underwater photography adventures

Hi, I took my UWP course in Mozambique, the experience is amazing. Theres so much to learn and so much biodiversity to see, that one month is not enough to enjoy that beautiful country. The UWP internship is ok for entry level UW Photographers or more advanced ones. Fi and her staff are the best teaching UWP. Guinjata's Dive Centre is the best Dive operator in Mozambique, all the staff are the best for making sure you have a great time on land and(...)

It was a great experience

My month spent in Mozambique was truly one of the best of my life.

The program was well organised and structured, building from foundational skills to more advanced techniques as the weeks went by. I felt completely supported in my learning - I joined the program with no underwater photography experience, but quickly developed a deep passion, and I felt confident and skilled to take this forward at the completion of the course. The support to alumnis(...)

An experience of a lifetime

Having the opportunity to spend a month in Mozambique, learning the art of Underwater Photography, was well and truly one of the most inspiring experiences I've ever had. Mentored from Fiona Ayerst, a world-renowned underwater photographer, I managed to cultivate the skills and understanding of Underwater Photography in a friendly and positive environment. The course is set in Guinjata Bay, a remote bay near the town of Inhambane, providing the perfect(...)

Highly recommend the underwater photography course

Loved loved LOVED every second I spent with Africa Media! I was blessed with an incredible group of people, one that I consider family forever, and learned about the South African culture, from braais to the language, to the people. Highly recommend the underwater photography course to ANYONE interested in spending a month diving with a camera in hand to capture all the magnificent creatures Africa has to offer.
